Going Green with "Thanks" ...for Dynamic Duos #96

Good morning, everyone.
Woke up to rain, here in Canada's capital.  Messy, but a welcome change in the weather!
Maybe it'll help things GREEN up around here.

Dynamic Duos' challenge this week will do just that:
It's the FIFTH Saturday of the month, so YOU get to choose the second colour.

For my card, I stuck with yellow-based colours, and chose a warm gold to compliment the green.
The card design was inspired by this card, found on Pinterest.
I've been loving all the water-colouring going on out there, and inked up my leaves and flowers stamps (from Paper Smooches--see links below) with Distress Markers adding a little spritz of water before stamping.
I felt the focal image needed a little more visual weight against that strong dotty background, so added the buttons to "stage" the vase. It also qualifies it for Simon Says Stamps' Wednesday challenge, Anything Goes with Buttons. And for House of Cards' challenge "add a button" (thanks, Cornelia!). I'm also linking to Paper Smooches' Anything Goes Sparks Challenge.

Time to check out what my fellow Design Team members have chosen to pair with their Gumball Green:

Hope you'll be inspired to play along with us this week at the Dynamic Duos. We LOVE seeing your creations!
Happy crafting,
Caroline

Back to Business! Dynamic Duos #86

The crafting world gets back to normal after this year's CHA...

It was fun seeing the sneak peeks of products and people. One of my favorites is Jennifer McGuire. This week's Dynamic Duos card is a tribute to her!
First, the colour challenge:
Its soft and subtle week, with an aqua and dusty rose combination.

I reproduced an effect Jennifer demonstrated HERE: she calls it "faux letterpress."
It involves using a cutting plate to emboss onto watercolour paper, then using Distress Markers to "paint" the resulting image. Here's the materials I used:
The Distress Markers are evergreen bough and tattered rose.
The cutting plate is Lil' Inker's swirls cover-up die.
Here's the card:
I couldn't bear to cover up that lovely organic image, so I heat-embossed my sentiment onto vellum, another technique I've been seeing lately. I used some more Lil' Inker products: Spot On stamp set--great big sentiment words and cute circular accents; and their new On the diagonal die  which has the LID distinctive stitched edge. I machine-stitched the banner onto the card and left the thread ends hanging. Another new thing, but it has me itching to trim them!
Time to check out the creations from the other Dynamos!

Hope to see you playing with these colours this week! at The Dynamic Duos.

Happy crafting,
Caroline

Color My Heart...Grateful

Can you believe that we are up to #70 at the Color My Heart Color Dare?
Yes, indeed, and this week's colours are perfect for an autumn-themed card:
OLIVE
AUTUMN TERRACOTTA
BARN RED

There is a new twist this week, too. Sarah has provided an optional sketch:
Here's my card:
I wanted to play around with some water-colour effects.
I used both Distress Markers and CTMH stamp-pads to ink up my stamps, then spritzed a little water on them before stamping. You can see a close-up of this in the next photo. The sentiment was stamped first, then masked off, allowing it to show around that gorgeous chrysanthemum image.
I did more messy colouring, dying my Color-Ready seam binding. I swiped the Autumn Terracotta ink-pad onto a craft sheet, spritzed that, then smooshed my length of ribbon around until it had absorbed the colour. Then dried it with a craft heater. Autumn Terracotta fingers!

The lovely lacy frame die is from Paper Wishes. The strip of DP at the bottom is from the Huntington paper pack from CTMH.

Now off you go to the Color My Heart blog, to see some more lovely examples by the DT, and for guidelines to participate. We'd love to see your creation with these challenge colours, be it card, scrapbook layout or 3D object. Remember, there are blog badges for our weekly winners and a prize for our monthly winner.

Happy crafting, and, more importantly, Happy Thanksgiving!
Caroline
