Happy & Fabulous in 2016

Big smooches to you, my fabulous crafty friends!
My first posting of the New Year. It's been a busy month so far. My job as a speech-language pathologist ended just before Christmas, but this semester, I'm teaching a course on stuttering. I was a last-minute replacement, so I've been scrambling to get the materials ready.

But I couldn't resist this week's sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.
Cindy's original design was for a gate-fold card, so I decided to go with that to create invitations to my neighbours and sisters for a ladies' pampering evening later this month.
Here's my version:
And here's what the card looks like as it opens up.
I used an older Stampin' Up set with FABULOUS images to create the right-side design, repeatedly stamping the lipstick image in subtle CTMH Slate ink,
I coloured one of the images for the inside, using Copic markers.
The smooch is a Lil'Inker Designs stamp, inked in CTMH Pomegranate, and embossed with clear shiny powder for some shine. The sentiment stamps are LID, as well.

Hope your New Year is off to a FABULOUS start.
Stay crafty,
Caroline

Freshly-Made Sketches and Freshly Falling Snow...

Good morning!
We are enjoying temperatures above zero today.
But the white stuff is on its way...
This is one of the final cards for the Caring Hearts Card Drive. Inspiration for the water-colour panel from Heather Telford's card class.
I used Freshly-Made Sketches' design #164
After heat-embossing the Stampin' Up snowflakes on white cardstock, I added Distress inks in Tumbled Glass, Evergreen Bough and Salty Ocean. Then flicked on some Perfect Pearls mist and plain ol' water. I subbed in some cascading sequins for the ribbon on the sketch.

Hope you fit some crafting into your day,
Caroline

Card for a Crafty Friend...Dynamic Duos #95

Hey there, crafty friends.
Guess what its doing outside, this fine Spring morning in Ontario?
Snowing fit to beat the band.
PERFECT day to stay inside and CRAFT.
And we have the perfect recipe for you, here at the Dynamic Duos:
Yep, its Triple Threat week! THREE delicious colours to play with.
This week, I wanted to experiment with some water-colouring effects. LOTS of that out and about on the internet. Did I mention my penance this year for Lent? NO purchasing of craft supplies for the whole 40 days... So, making use of what I have on hand, I first heat-embossed this great subway-art design from Fresh-Squeezed Stamps:
Then I played around with some distress markers and water-colour pencils.
As I didn't have anything close, my SU friend Hayley gave me some Rich Razzleberry cardstock (WHAT a delicious colour!). It seemed to deserve centre-stage on this card. So I rummaged through my button and bling collection to come up with this final product:
Further note the cross-stitching along the bottom (more, sadly retired Fresh-squeezed stamps) and the über-cute scissors charm! (Close to my Heart jewelry supplies).
I just love how this turned out, and some crafty friend will be the lucky recipient!

Check out the awesome creations by the Dynamic Duos design team:

You're a shoe-in...Dynamic Duos #92

 Good morning, everyone.
How I wish it was open-toe-shoe weather outside! Patience, I know.
In the meantime, we can celebrate the start of a new month, with a new "bold & cheery" challenge from the Dynamic Duos.
I used a Viva la Verve sketch for my card this week, along with some new Stampin' Up goodies from my friend, Hayley.
Here's the sketch:
 And here's the card:
I used some Verve ribbon, to match the Hollyhock and Indian Corn Blue papers from Close to My Heart. The new SU goodies include the stamp set and pinked edge framelit dies.
A closer look:
How's about that Manolo Blahnik shoe?
To dress it up, I did some paper-piecing and Copic-colouring, along with touches of silver gel pen, Wink of Stella and bling.
Strap on some cute shoes and wander over to the Dynamic Duos blog to see what the  talented team has done with these bold colours.

Hope to see your creation linked up this week! One of the best parts of the DT job is seeing and commenting on all the skill and ability out there.
Happy crafting,
Caroline
